The World’s Largest Bake Sale To End Hunger!
What do you get when you bring Sandra Lee, Emeril, Mario Batali, Lidia Bastianich and Rosanna Scotto together? The World’s Largest Bake Sale, of course, taking place in historic Vanderbilt Hall at Grand Central Terminal in New York City next Tuesday from 11:30am-7pm . But it’s not just any event. It’s a fundraising event, sponsored by Pyrex, to benefit The Food Bank of New York, featuring sweet and savory baked goods from thirty of New York’s most well-respected chefs and restaurants, including six from Grand Central Terminal. This event will be the impetus for ancillary events happening simultaneously that day in every state in the country to raise funds for local area food banks throughout the United States.
Sandra, who is passionately committed to providing support to America’s food banks, organized this event in collaboration with her friends and fellow food industry icons Batali, Bastianich, Lagasse and Scotto. Emeril and Scotto will be in attendance at the NYC event on March 29th, as will Sandra’s fellow Food Network star, Duff Goldman from “Ace of Cakes”. The event will feature sweet and savory baked goods from 30 of New York’s most well-known eateries, including Ciao Bella Gelato, Junior’s Restaurant, Magnolia, Manhattan Chili Company, Murray’s Cheese and Zaro’s. For a complete list of World’s Largest Bake Sale participants visit www.grandcentralterminal.com or the Grand Central Terminal page on Facebook.

Wonderful but definitely not the world’s largest bake sale – I have to believe that honor goes to mom Gretchen Holt Witt. Her first bake sale, which was the catalyst for Cookies for Kids’ Cancer, along with the help of 250 volunteers raised about $400,000 when they baked 96,000 cookies! Inspired by her son Liam’s diagnosis of neuroblastoma, a deadly childhood cancer (Liam passed on Jan 24th at the age of 6), Cookies for Kids’ Cancer has now raised more than $2.5 million towards childhood cancer research. The story is on their website and it’s incredibly inspiring.
